Backbone is a post-noir narrative adventure about personal transformation. Step into the shoes of Howard Lothor, a raccoon private detective, and set out to explore animal-infested Vancouver.

Backbone is inspired by film noir, weird fiction, post-Soviet aesthetics, modern political regimes, the work of Lynch and Kaufman, and the existential philosophy of Sartre. This is a linear narrative story that pushes the boundaries of the genre and changes the idea of \u200b\u200bwhat it means to be human.

GAMEPLAY

Backbone´s gameplay combines emotion-inspiring narrative with complex branching dialogues inspired by classic CRPGs and free exploration of the game world. The end of all things is inevitable, but which version of Howard Lotor reaches the end is up to you.

As Howard, you will:
• Build relationships with deeply written characters in search of the truth
• Form the character of the hero and make decisions in the dialogues - you yourself determine who you will be
• Explore the flourishing and abandoned neighborhoods of Walled Vancouver
• Come to terms with your own existence and the pain of loss
• And, of course, be a real raccoon

Post-noir dystopia
Vancouver in Backbone is a dark and gloomy city full of dangers, but there is also a place for hope. Embark on this cold, cruel world and find those who will help you change it for the better. You will not be alone in your quest: many are sure that Vancouver must change, but everyone has their own ideas about the “best”.

Stunning graphics
An exciting combination of high-resolution pixel art and 3D effects: dynamic lightning, pouring rain, volumetric fog and neon lighting bring the city to life on screen. Visit all of Vancouver´s iconic locations - Gastown, Granville, the Fairmont Hotel - carefully recreated in a world populated by anthropomorphic animals.

Catchy soundtrack
The original soundtrack by Nikita Danshin and Arooj Aftab, combining elements of classical jazz and electronic music, and a well-chosen sound background create an unforgettable atmosphere reminiscent of the old cinema. You have never heard such dark jazz.
